Planting

Well Rooted Gardens has had NNLA Certified Nurseryman on staff since 2009.

“The right plant for the right place”, is our landscaping motto. If you plant the wrong plant in the wrong place, it will die every year.

And, if you source your plant material from box stores that ship in plant material from down south, chances are it will die come winter because it is just not able to handle the Nebraska climate. That is why we only use high-quality plant stock that comes from licensed nurseries in northern climates to ensure that your plants can acclimate and thrive.

Well Rooted Gardens’ experienced designers will work closely with you to understand your vision and your property’s unique characteristics. When we design your outdoor living area, we carefully choose plants well-suited to our specific climate, soil type, sun exposure, and water availability. We also consider factors such as plant maintenance requirements and your aesthetic preferences.

We prevent overcrowding and promote healthy development by strategically placing plants based on their mature size and growth habits. This proactive approach fosters an aesthetically pleasing arrangements that allows each plant to flourish without competing for resources.

Although spring is when most people are thinking of and wanting a beautiful space, fall is the time to do the preparation. Perennials usually become compacted after five to seven years of growth, and fall is a prime time to divide many types of perennials. Dividing overgrown plants will rejuvenate them and help them to thrive, plus you will  get extra plants you can relocate to other areas of your landscape.

Fall is also a great time to plant trees and shrubs. Roots continue to grow late into the fall when the leaves have grown dormant. A tree’s watering needs are also more forgiving in the fall than in summer. Thinking ahead, if you want some spring color, then fall is the time to plant flowering bulbs.

Edibles

At Well Rooted Gardens, we believe that most everyone has the ability to grow some type of edible in their landscaping situation. Often edible and ornamental plants can be merged together seamlessly in your garden.

We will work with you to select fruits that thrive in your specific conditions, and we will carefully handle the installation, ensuring optimal growth and a stunning display!

Edible plants can fit into a number of different spaces or planting situations:

  • Fruit trees can provide a focal point in an open area of your landscape
  • Urban apple trees fit into skinny places and can be used to visually balance a space
  • Vines that bear fruit can be planted anywhere you might place a clematis or honeysuckle
  • Fruit shrubs can fit into smaller areas and look amazing when they flower
  • Groundcovers such as strawberries can be used for erosion and weed control
  • Potted tropical fruits can be an upgrade over planting annuals
