Twenty years ago, Joel Kayser had a vision to build a landscape company around people, rather than just find a warm body to fill a spot. This approach has proven to be the biggest reason for our success in becoming an excellent company. His vision was based upon the Biblical standard of the “Golden Rule”. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Joel views it this way; he wants those he hires to work in his own home to be experts in their field, so, he pursued advanced education to be that expert for his clients. At Well Rooted Gardens, we further that experience for our customers by providing in house training and outside certification and education for our employees. With multiple degrees and numerous certifications in horticulture, we are experts in our field.

Why are we unique in our space? Because of the ways, also called Uniques™ , that we strive for in order to make your experience with us the best that it can be.

From the beginning, Joel did not want Well Rooted Gardens to be average because no one wants average work performed for them. Our clients expect the best, so every morning we meet as a team to discuss how we can provide the best service and communication experience possible for our clients. Always with the thought in mind – “As you would want to be treated,” for that is the Golden Rule.

Why We Are Unique

20 years ago Joel Kayser had a vision to build a landscape company around people, rather than find people to fill a spot. For over 20 years our founder’s vision has proven to be our biggest reason for success in becoming an excellent company. His vision was based upon the Biblical standard of the “golden rule”. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

Joel wants experts working at his home when he hires them, so, he pursued advanced education to be that expert for his clients. With multiple degrees and numerous certifications in horticulture, we are experts in our field.  Our company puts our employees through horticultural education to further that experience of excellence for our clients.

Joel Kayser

Owner & Sales Manager

Joel Kayser has over 20 years of experience in the field. He started Well Rooted Gardens in 2007, with a passion for bringing excellence to the industry. He has two degrees in horticulture as well as being a Certified Arborist and a Certified Nurseryman. In 2023 Joel was elected to the Nebraska Nursery and Landscapers Association Board of Directors and stays active in training the next generation of landscape professionals. In 2025, the NNLA awarded Joel with the Distinguished Nursery & Landscape Professional of the Year Award. Joel’s wife, Cherie, and their 5 children are actively involved in the family business and enjoy edible landscaping on their family farm.

Jarrod - Well Rooted Gardens team member

Jarrod Lane

Operations Manager

As the Operations Manager, Jarrod oversees the work flow for our 7 crews to ensure customer satisfaction. Jarrod is also our lead hardscape salesmen and is especially gifted in designing hardscape projects. Jarrod is a Nebraska Certified Nurseryman & Landscape Professional (NCNLP) through the NNLA. He is also nationally certified as a segmented retaining wall installer. He and his wife have 3 boys and live on their little acreage outside Omaha.

Joy Miller

Office Administrator

Joy joined the Well Rooted family in 2020, but before that, all 3 of her sons had worked for WRG. She has a Computer Engineering Technology degree from K-State and uses those skills to keep our office and billing running smoothly. She is an avid gardener and has decades of growing experience.

Brandon Miller - Hardscape Foreman at Well Rooted Gardens

Brandon

Field Supervisor

Brandon has been with Well Rooted Gardens for over a decade, and has experience in almost every area of the field. He started out as a landscape crew member in 2015 and for several years he has been the foreman of the hardscape crew, specializing in wall and patio construction. In the fall of 2025, he was promoted to field supervisor, and helps oversee multiple jobsites and train new employees on the standards within the company.

Teddy Dirksen - Softscape Foreman at Well Rooted Gardens

Estimator & Designer

Teddy has been with the company for over five years and shares our owner's passion for plant ID. Teddy became a certified nurseryman in 2024, and used his plant ID and landscape knowledge as our softscape foreman. He oversaw all the tree and shrub planting projects to insure they were being installed according to nurseryman standards. To keep up with the demands of our growing company, Teddy has moved into a new position as the Landscape Designer.

Jake Westcott - Treatments Foreman at Well Rooted Gardens

Treatment Supervisor

Jake has been with the company for over two years and has quickly grown to enjoy learning more about treatment methods for plant health care. Jake oversees the chemical treatment of trees and turf areas, and loves to bring his organized and detailed touch to the company. He and his wife have one daughter, and he loves to talk football whenever he can.

Luke Sigler - Tree Trimming Foreman at Well Rooted Gardens

Tree Foreman

Luke has been with the company for one year, and is the lead climber on the tree crew. Prior to joining our team Luke spent much of his life in roofing, and then he found his new passion in climbing and trimming trees. He is very skilled at quickly climbing trees and assessing the tree's needs. In addition, Luke passed his NAA Certification in 2024 and is now a certified arborist.

Holden - Maintenance Foreman

Holden

Maintenance Foreman

Holden started with Well Rooted Gardens in the spring of 2025, and brings several years of landscape experience to each jobsite he visits. As foreman of landscape maintenance, Holden brings attention to detail along with excellence in plant health care.

Destin

Mow Foreman

Having only worked for Well Rooted Gardens since spring 2025, now Destin has taken on the responsibility of Mow Foreman. He enjoys attention to details and seeing turf areas transformed through high quality mowing.

Levi

Hardscape Foreman

Levi is one of three brothers who currently work for Well Rooted Gardens. He started as part of the hardscaping crew a few years ago, and after gaining much experience installing patios and retaining walls, in 2026 he became a Hardscape Foreman. He has exceptional attention to detail and can transform any hardscape project.

Clete

Install Foreman

Clete began working as a softscape crew member straight out of high school. Since 2021 he has excelled in his skills and leads our planting crew. His knowledge of how landscapes come together, combined with his amazing work ethic helps his projects come to life.

Steve - Hardscape Foreman

Install Foreman

Steve started with Well Rooted as a hardscape crew member in 2025, and in 2026 was promoted to Install Foreman, where he oversees a variety of hardscape and softscapes. He enjoys seeing his projects come to life from the first day of excavation to the final day of installation.

Joel Kayser

CEO & Founder

Joel Kayser has almost 20 years of experience in the field. He started Well Rooted Gardens in 2007, with a passion for bringing excellence to the industry. He has two degrees in horticulture as well as being a Certified Arborist and Certified Nurseryman. He continues to train his staff in advanced landscaping standards. Joel’s wife, Cherie, and their 5 children, are actively involved in the family business and enjoy edible landscaping.

Jarrod Lane

Landscape Designer & Install Manager

Jarrod started working for Well Rooted in 2019 and was promoted to Landscape Installation Manager in 2020. He enjoys helping customers design their outdoor extension of their home. He and his wife have a little boy and live on their little acreage outside Omaha.

Jordon Cave

Grounds Maintenance Manager

Jordan was a firefighter and medic for over 15 years. He has now moved his science and healthcare knowledge from people to plants and is a Certified Arborist & Licensed Pesticide Applicator. He loves tree care and can help with any of your pest or disease problems. He and his wife have 6 kids and recently bought their own little “farm”.
